Kimono (Kitsuke) Workshop: Dressing, Wearing, and Preserving

Immerse yourself in the elegant tradition of Kimono Kitsuke and develop a deeper appreciation for this timeless art. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn to:

  • Properly dress yourself in a kimono

  • Care for and store your kimono

  • Move and carry yourself gracefully while wearing a kimono

  • Whisk matcha and formally receive tea and sweets

Classes are held quarterly in the East-West Chanoyu Center (EWCC) tearooms, located on the 2nd floor of the East Building at the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Washington (JCCCW).

Workshop Details:

Schedule: Fridays in February, 3:30 – 6:00 PM
Location: EWCC tearooms, 2nd Floor, East Building, JCCCW, 1414 S. Weller Street, Seattle, WA 98144
Cost: $150 for the full four class series
Capacity: Limited to 3 participants

What to Bring:

Participants must provide their own kimono, obi, and undergarments.
If you need kimono items, visit JCCCW’s Hosekibako Resale Store on the 1st floor of the East Building. The store is open Thursday – Sunday, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM.

Access Note: Enter through the green door in the alley on the north side of the East Building. The door is locked 3:00PM - so please call 206.328.6018 for entry.
