This short computer-generated video highlights the construction progress of Zuishin'an, made possible through the generous donation of a 4.5-tatami mat tearoom by the family of our dedicated member, Lynn Sōrin Moser. Located within the East Building on the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Washington (JCCCW) campus, the 570-square-foot space includes a 4.5-tatami mat tearoom, an 8-tatami mat tearoom, a foyer, a galley kitchen, and an attic.
With the rough carpentry phase now complete, we are moving forward to the next critical step: a skilled finish woodworker will refine the tearoom alcoves and install key features, including shoji doors and rails, hall window coverings, host entrance doors, a ceiling for the larger tearoom, a crawling-in door, light fixtures, and more.
To accomplish this phase, we aim to raise an additional $25,000, leveraging a matching grant to successfully complete this crucial work. The official opening of Zuishin'an is planned to coincide with the completion of the finish woodworking, marking an exciting milestone for our community.
We sincerely appreciate the generous support of King County 4Culture in ‘Building for Equity’ funding for the tearoom construction, as well as ‘Arts Sustained’ support for programs throughout the year.
